B Cup Cafe
B Cup Cafe is a place we happened upon just simply by chance. As you might recall, I did a review for the wonderful restaurant Back Forty. Upon leaving, we walked up one block on avenue C. Sitting right on the corner at 13th street was a cool looking bistro/cafe. I have a sweet tooth the size of Montana so of course we had to, at the very least, have a peek. Everything looked so good, we ended up buying so many snacks and over-stuffing our all ready full stomachs. But that’s all ok. The food was awesome.
It was a very cold night. Traditionally, what warms you up more than some hot chocolate? B Cup serves up delicious mugs of hot chocolate, so rich and creamy.
It doesn’t have an overpowering chocolate taste like some other places make it, but it’s quite nice. It’s served in two different mugs sizes, but both are pretty huge.
I love Oreos. Who doesn’t though right? Here at B Cup everything is homemade. This includes what they called The Giant Oreo Cookie.
Same idea as the traditional Oreo with the two chocolate cookies with a frosting inside. What they do different though, is heavenly. The two giant cookies are, well, first of all very big. The cookie is soft, chewy, and bursts of serious chocolate. The frosting inside reminds me a lot like the type of frosting that you’d ice a cake with. It’s light, fluffy, and so so sweet man. I loved this.
One of the first things I noticed when walking in was a Mud Cake just staring at me through the glass case.
B Cup’s preparation for it is really cute. They take the time to warm up the cake and when ready, it’s placed on a big serving plate. On one corner of the plate is a drizzle of chocolate syrup. Adjacent to that is a nice little pile of whipped cream surrounded by strawberries. I loved the way the warmed cake contrasted with the feel of the cold whipped cream. It was really really nice.
As nice as the food was, I was also pleased with the crowd. It wasn’t your average coffee place where there’s either .com-ers plugging away on their lap tops or even worse, hippsters gathered in circles comparing each others clothing. It was normal everyday people. The vibe from all that reverberates into one fine cafe.
