Parisi Bakery
In the hilarious book, Stuff White People Like, listed at #63 is “Expensive Sandwiches”. Before I had ever read this book, I would joke with my friends that sandwiches are all white people eat. How thrilling it was to see my idea justified being in a book. It’s so true though. I LOVE sandwiches. So why not find the top ranked sandwich in New York? Awesomeness.
The location of this ‘best sandwich in New York’ is located at the Parisi Bakery sandwiched between (pun intended), NoLitA, SoHo, and Little Italy. They’ve been open since 1903 still, to this day, are run by the same Parisi family that opened up the place.
There is no place to sit, just two counters. One is for hot sandwiches and the other for everything else. I must say the fresh scent of bread of this place is just brilliant. Definitely authentic, definitely delicious. Can’t wait. The menu is easy to use. Basically choose from their bread, then pick your meat, then add on whatever you want.
A real Italian place knows their Proscuitto so that’s my pick here. Let’s go for a Hero with Proscuitto, lettuce, tomato, smoked mozzarella, and roasted red peppers.
This thing is massive. It’s seriously thicker than my bicep and longer than my forearm. Good thing I’m an eater. The Proscuitto is perfect thinly slice pork with matching perfect taste. However the two best parts of this are not even the meat or bread, it’s the cheese and the peppers.
I’ve been to places where they serve ‘fresh cheese’ and they do not hold a candle to this smoked mozzarella. Soft. Cheese. Ever. Wow. And the haymaker for the sandwich is the roasted red peppers. As thick as fingers and just as long, these juicy soaked wonders where unbelievable. The sweetest most delicious peppers ever. Parisi Bakery does not skimp, not on a damned thing.
Any place that bakes right on premise must have good desserts too, right? You bet. Try the coffee cake.
Perfect amount of crumby, sugary, and frosty top along with the softest sponge cake bottom you’d ever find. I asked for two small pieces and got slabs. Hey, I’m game. Bring it.
Stuff White People Like#64: Sandwiches.

My husband and I love sandwiches! I could eat them for every meal of every day. These are beautiful. I would diff. order the first one with the roasted red peppers. YUM YUM.
Interesting. Yummy ! Thank you for sharing. Cheers !
Much like Joey Tribiani of the TV show Friends, sandwiches certainly rank high on my list of favourites. And these look amazing. I seriously dig those roasted red peppers! As a dish, it seems a simple thing …but there are sandwiches and then, there are SANDWICHES! Next time I visit..ok?
Those are sandwiches I would be happy to take a bite of. I wish I knew about this bakery when I lived in NYC.
All these look so tasty! I love sandwiches of any kind no matter how messy they are. Roasted red peppers must be a wonderful addition in a sandwich.
hahaha i love the title of that book. I will see if the library has it. So funny but true:) The sandwich looks great. I love italian sandwich shop in New York. Hard to find one like that here in Vancouver.
Now I want a sandwich! lol This one reminds me of a Muffelatta!
This white girl is definitely interested in that sandwich!
