Maria’s Bistro Mexicano
November 29th is National Square Dance Day (no joke, look it up). I didn’t realize this until December 4th as I’m writing this. Had I known I would’ve put on a straw hat, overalls, lost four teeth went out for chili and corn bread, and did the promenade and do-si-do’ed til the cows came home. Well maybe just the chili and cornbread part. What I actually did, in hindsight, makes it seems like a celebrated National Opposite Day because I in fact did not square dance, but had a low-key dining experience at Maria’s Bistro Mexicano.
Sunset Park in Brooklyn is known for having a massive amounts of spanish speaking residents. Over 50% of Sunset Park’s population as a matter of fact. Perfect place to try some REAL Mexican food. Maria’s Bistro Mexicano is exactly that.
First item ordered is the Super Nachos De La Casa which consists of crispy corn chips, chorizo, oaxaca cheese, refried beans, jalapeno, and pico de gallo.
If we could stop for a second. Let me tell you first off that Mexican is my favorite cuisine. Nachos also happen to be one of my most favorite dishes in the entire world. I must have eaten all different sorts of plates of nachos 500-1000 times in my life (maybe more!) I gotta say that these may be the best nachos that I’ve ever had if not at least near the top of the list. Every chip is perfectly crispy, the plate is LOADED with fixins, and the chorizo is the absolute perfect topper. I loved every bite.
Great presentation on theĀ Las Quesadillas Del Comal with chicken and oaxaca cheese.
With just the chicken, cheese, and a few spices in this quesadilla, the taste of each item is intensified. No flavors are pushed to that side here. All pieces complement each other well.
Maria’s offers many different types of tacos. So why not try them all!? Pictured here are the ‘Super’ version of the Bistec, Pork, and Chorizo Tacos.
The tortillas are all authentic corn not flour. The Bistec and Chorizo contain onion, cilantro, sour cream, white cheese, and guacamole. The Pork Tacos have a filling of sour cream, white cheese, guacamole, onions, tomato, and chile chipotle. Every single one of these tacos were awesome! Great authentic flavors and delicious juicy meat in each and every bite. My favorite of the whole bunch was the Chorizio Taco. This place knows their chorizo!
I understand it’s a trek to get into Brooklyn, let alone Sunset Park, but you know you’d have some legit Spanish food in a neighborhood like this. Maria’s Bistro Mexicano is well worth the ride. Hey remember, the N train is express on weekdays. The trip ain’t that bad!
Side note: After a year’s research in figuring out New York’s 10 Best Burgers, I’ve decided that the next project will be New York’s 10 Best Nachos. Many websites have dedicated themselves to nachos, but never has a list so collassal and so perfect ever been made. Stay tuned for many more nachos where this came from!
