MEE Noodle Shop
“EMBASSY FOREVER!!!” And what the heck does that mean? I’ll explain. As some of you may know, I’m a huge wrestling fan. One of my restaurant posts I even dedicated to Bret “The Hitman” Hart. And here I am doing it once again. This one is for a lesser known wrestling personality. Prince Nana is a wrestling manager on Ring of Honor (As seen on HDNET).
He leads a faction of villain wrestlers known as “The Embassy”. Outside of the ring, he’s a normal guy from New York. In fact, he’s on my Facebook and Twitter accounts. One day Prince Nana posted about a great restaurant in Midtown. The rest is history…..
One day Prince Nana mentioned that he was eating at “his spot” at 53rd street and 9th avenue. “That spot” is known as MEE Noodle Shop.
Chinese cuisine specializing in Hunan and Szechuan. The biggest draw to the place is the soup. It’s a pretty intense soup. The broth is homemade and then there’s the noodles. Those are also homemade and available in eight different ways: Spinach, Mandarin, Lo Mein, Thin Cantonese, Flat Cantonese, Hand Pulled, Mee Fun, and Chow Fun. Our example is Hand Pulled Soup with Sliced Beef.
Beef so soft and delicious marinates in the stewing pot of the most flavorful broth I’ve ever had the pleasure of tasting. The bowl itself is gigantic. It honestly could feed a family of four, and at an incredibly low low price. The Hand Pulled Noodles as fresh as can be.
In Prince Nana’s tweet, he mentioned that his favorite dish a Mee Noodle Shop is the General Tso’s Chicken.
Now I know why. These are generous sized pieces of chicken dipped into, no wait, dunked in, no wait, IMMERSED in the thickest and tastiest sweet and sour I’ve ever had the joy of eating in my entire life. This is the best General Tso’s Chicken I have ever had. Chicken cooked to crispy and perfect. Prince Nana knows his chicken.
Simple dishes like Shredded Pork in Garlic Sauce are even down exceptionally.
Each piece of pork grasps the idea of perfection in each bite as the garlic accents it whole. Onions, peppers, water chestnuts, and other veggies are cooked crisply accommodating.
Some people would consider MEE Noodle Shop a “hole in the wall” because it fills a narrow space, or seats are mended with duct tape, or the menu’s are just paper. I would interject and change “hole in the wall” to a clearing in an urban jungle. Prince Nana, you know your Chinese food. Thanks.
