  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • Zest of 1 large orange
  • Juice of 1 large orange
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients gradually; add boiling water until well blended.
  5. Stir in orange zest and juice, then fold in chocolate chips.
  6. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. Frost with chocolate ganache and garnish with orange slices before serving.
