Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 tablespoon green food coloring

Instructions

  3. Divide dough in half; mix cocoa into one half and green food coloring into the other.
  4. Chill both portions wrapped in plastic for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Roll out each color to ¼ inch thick, cut into strips, and layer them for a checkerboard effect.
  6. Slice into cookies, bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10-12 minutes, then cool before serving.
